What The Hands Remember
An Exhibition & Filmmaking Workshop by Taimy Alvarez
Step into a powerful journey of memory, identity, and creative expression.
What The Hands Remember is an immersive exhibition at MAD Arts that weaves together documentary film, fiber, photography, and mixed media through the work of six extraordinary South Florida artists: Yochi Yavin, Marina Font, Karla Kantorovich, Magda Love, Aurora Molina, and Lisu Vega.
Created by photojournalist and filmmaker Taimy Alvarez, the exhibition features six intimate documentary films alongside the artists' work, offering a rare glimpse into the stories, experiences, and creative processes that shape their art. Through moving images, sound, and visual storytelling, visitors are invited to explore themes of memory, resilience, culture, and artistic transformation.
As part of the exhibition, artists and creatives are invited to participate in Storytelling Through the Lens: Filmmaking for Artists, a free hands-on workshop designed to help artists create compelling videos using the tools they already own. Participants will learn practical techniques for visual storytelling, smartphone filmmaking, composition, lighting, sound recording, and editing to better document their artwork, creative process, exhibitions, and professional portfolios.
Whether you're visiting the exhibition or joining the workshop, What The Hands Remember offers a unique opportunity to experience the power of storytelling through both art and film.
