Taimy Alvarez is a Photographer, Videographer, Director of Photography, and Video/Photo Editor based in South Florida and working everywhere.
Taimy Alvarez is an experienced director of photography, photojournalist, and video editor, who has won both Emmy and Pulitzer awards. She is the head of Taimy Alvarez Media LLC. With 27 years of experience in media, Alvarez has worked on various projects for INSIDER, Washington Post, U.S.A. Today, Associated Press, Go Traveler, and The Sun Sentinel, among others. Alvarez's unique documentary style of photography, videography, and editing has helped create visually stunning and engaging visual stories, including her recent work on the Go Traveler show, SailTrek.
In 2017, The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Suncoast Chapter honored Alvarez with a Suncoast Regional Emmy Award in the Investigative Report category for her work on the investigative report, The Gulf’s Deadly Harvest for the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
Alvarez was part of the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s team that covered the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14th, 2018 killings earned journalism’s top award this year, the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.
Alvarez was also the Director of Photography and editor for a mini-documentary called "CROSSING THE WATERS: THE IMPACT OF BAHAMIAN PIONEERS IN SOUTH FLORIDA". The film reveals, engages, educates, and preserves history about the enormous impact of Bahamian pioneers in South Florida. Early Bahamian settlers played pivotal roles in the development and growth of vibrant communities in Coconut Grove. Moreover, they enriched the history of Fort Lauderdale by sharing their skills in trading, farming, fishing, masonry, and wrecking on the New River. Alvarez's film was selected to play at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival and was a finalist in the NewFilmMakers in NY, showcasing her talent at a global level.
Alvarez currently lives in South Florida but works on projects around the world.
